SUMMARY:Life Science New Regents - THREE In Person Labs @DNALC
DESCRIPTION:Series package ticket that includes in-person labs only. In-person labs workshops will take place at our host site\, DNA Learning Center BK.\n\n\nLife Science New Regents – Mapping the new labs to your curriculum. \nOct 20\, Nov 17\, and Dec 14\, 2024 (10am-3pm; subject to change) \nHosted by the DNA Learning Center in Brooklyn \nLed by Chris Resch\, Qiao Feng\, and other seasoned teacher-leaders! \n \nPlan your new Regents Life Science Labs with us! Work with over three in person workshop days\, with supportive\, experienced\, mentors and a community of colleagues\, to experience the new labs yourself! \nThis summer we held a sold-out\, one-week\, professional learning workshop focused on the new Life Science Regents Labs. Based on what we learned from our teacher-participants\, Chris Resch and a team of experienced teachers and teacher-leaders will host three in-person lab workshops\, and four virtual planning sessions over the 2024-2025 school year. \nLife Science education is often associated with memorization. But does it have to be? The Life Sciences is a subject rich in anchoring models that all tie together and build off each other and create a rich story of interactions and scale! Recent shifts in pedagogical research\, NGSS/NYS Regents standards have caused movement towards this more conceptually based approach to biology education. We want to help you move your lessons and teaching there as well! \n \nSummer 2024 Alumni Testimonials\n\n“I found the workshop really helpful and thought provoking… It was hands on and concrete and we were able to brainstorm approaches with other teachers in the same and in different circumstances than us.” Tobie B.\n“It was a great model for \, since it was taught/explained/ run by real classroom teachers. I love the simple idea of doing the class as teacher mode and student mode.” Joanna P.\n“… was extremely helpful to unpack and grapple with the information alongside veteran teachers who had so much to share from their own experiences teaching Biology to middle and high school students. Chris is an especially calm teacher\, and his approach with us in the workshop allowed us to experience what our students will experience as they embark on a more inquiry based approach to studying Biology\, as well as validating our angst as teachers in helping our students build the skills needed to be successful…” Ruth F.\n\n \nPriorities for the New Life Science Regents Labs Series: \n\nCurricular sequencing and placement of the labs.\nCross-unit connections to the bigger ideas and being more intentionally three dimensional.\nClaims Evidence Reasoning (CER) model will be woven through all three of the labs.\nFocus on pedagogical shifts inherent to NGSS/NYSSLS. Planning for the shift towards science literacy and practices\, and away from tons of facts.\nWorkshops in the series will target launching phenomena\, Socratic Dialogue\, and narratives\, and highlight very concrete lessons that complement the NYS labs.\n\nWe look forward to supporting you this year! \n \n \nCost: \nFull Series (All In-Person Labs + Monthly Virtual Sessions) > $280 \nThree In-person Labs Only > $195 (three labs\, $65/lab) \nMonthly Virtual Sessions Only > $85 (7 sessions\, ~$12/session) \nSingle Lab Workshop > $70 \n \nSTEMteachersNYC delivers professional development workshops for teachers\, by teachers\, about teaching\, since 2011.
