SUMMARY:Fall Bird Walk in Central Park - Migration & Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:During the Fall Migration\, a huge variety of birds stop in Central Park to rest and refuel for their journey South!\n\n\nLeaders: Ken Chaya and Fernand Brunschwig \nFormat and Dates: One 3.5-4 Hour Session\, 10/28/2023 (7:30-11:30am approx) \nGroup Meets at 103rd Street & Central Park West \nDescription: Central Park is an urban oasis for birds as well as people. During the fall\, a variety of birds stop in Central Park to rest and refuel during their migration south\, while others make it their temporary home. Join us for a walk through the north end of the park to learn about some of the “snow birds” and winter residents—sparrows\, finches\, sapsuckers\, waterfowl\, blackbirds\, raptors—and search for late migrants and rarities such as warblers\, flycatchers\, shorebirds\, owls and more. Learn how to identify the birds and find out about their behavior. Bring walking footwear and binoculars and/or a camera with a good telephoto lens. Don’t be late—We will start walking at 7:45 am sharp. \nIncludes slides and other classroom-friendly resources! \n \nCost: (Limited # of tickets!) $25 per person to reserve your spot. The first ten attendees who complete both half days will receive a stipend of $100. This workshop is offered under our ClimateSTEM Series and is sponsored by ConEd. \n \nSTEMteachersNYC delivers professional development workshops for teachers\, by teachers\, about teaching\, since 2011. All workshops over 2hrs offer CTLE. CUNY Pre-service teachers may attend for free; Brooklyn College Pre-service teachers receive Field Site hours. Please reach out if your school requires an invoice. We are an NYCDOE MTAC Vendor.
