DESCRIPTION:Join peers from across subjects & grades\, learn from UFS Artist in Residence Nikki Lindt\, & build your own piezo disc sound capturing tools!\n\n \n\nLeaders: Nikki Lindt \nDates: April 2\, 23\, and June 3or4\, 2023 (10:00am-1:00pm EDT\, in person. April 2 meets in Prospect Park\, Brooklyn). \nThe first eight teacher-participants to sign up will receive a stipend of $50 for this two hour workshop! Free to all other attendees. Workshops in our ClimateSTEM Series are made possible with support from ConEd. \nSound Across the Curriculum – Sensing Place/Sense of Place \nThis 3 Part Workshops on Outdoor Project Based STEAM was developed in collaboration with the NYC Parks Department Office of Teaching & Learning Services. \nCalling all STEM & STEAM-Curious Teachers! Join us for a FREE\, three-part\, in-person series that aims to give you and your students an oportunity to take your science and engineering lessons outside – and make intentional cross-curricular connections while we’re at it! This series will help you foster parks-based interdisciplinary teaching & learning in NYC by: \n\nIntroducing educators to alternative methods of parks-based research/data collection practiced by resident artist-researchers in the USFS/TNoC Arts Collaborative Program\nPartnering STEM and Humanities teachers to co-create parks-based learning experiences that can used by other educators as inspiration and/or instruction\nProviding the space and resources for educator teams to learn\, experiment\, and share with one together\nBuild awareness of/connection to educational and career path opportunities with K-12/secondary education community and NYC Parks\n\nTEACHERS OF ALL CONTENT AREAS & GRADES WELCOME! BRING A COLLEAGUE! Music\, Art\, ELA\, Librarians\, Maker\, STEM… all teachers welcome! \n \nSession 1/April 2: Learn (@Prospect Park\, rain or shine) \nIntroduction to the Underground Sound Project with artist Nikki Lindt! Learn how the project was developed\, how it has grown\, and experience it for yourself! \nCross-curricular collaborative team: Nikki Lindt\, Lindsay Campbell (USFS/Urban Field Station)\, and Robin Sanchez (NYC DEP). \nTool introductions: contact microphone\, hydrophone\, geophone. \nSession 2/April 23: Make (@Makerspace in Manhattan) \nTinkering introduction to Nikki’s tools\, participants build 3 different versions and test them out. \nOptional follow-up: troubleshooting\, re-making\, classroom progress session. \nSession 3/June 3or4: Share (Location & date TBD) \nReconvene participants and researchers for show and tell! This will be an in-person session\, ideally with a parallel virtual Google Site Gallery of student work. We will celebrate\, debrief\, and discuss the value of a collaborative art-sound-science project as a central node for outdoor project based learning! \n \nCost: Attendance will be capped at 16 participants. All participants who attend all 3 sessions receive a $100 stipend. We will maintain a waitlist for all sessions. You must participate to receive a stipend – if you register but do not attend\, the stipend will be given to the next registrant-attendee. Participants receiving stipends will be asked to provide feedback in addition to our exit ticket\, at the end of the workshop. Our ClimateSTEM Series is supported by ConEd. \nSTEMteachersNYC delivers professional development workshops for teachers\, by teachers\, about teaching\, since 2011. All workshops over 2hrs offer CTLE. CUNY Pre-service teachers may attend for free; Brooklyn College Pre-service teachers receive Field Site hours. Please reach out if your school requires an invoice. We are an NYCDOE MTAC Vendor. \n \nCurrent CUNY students with valid ID may attend workshops at a discount or for FREE! Judgments about acceptability of explanations and documentation\, and about whether or not a refund will be issued are at the sole discretion of STEMteachersNYC and are final. Refunds will not include fees charged on the initial payment by Eventbrite\, credit cards\, and/or banks. \n \nIs my reservation/ticket transferrable? \nIf your school or organization has made the ticket purchase for you\, your credit may be transferable to a school or organization colleague. \nAuthorization from our team will be required.
