About this workshop
Grant writing is an essential skill that empowers educators to secure funding for innovative STEM programs, classroom resources, and meaningful student learning experiences that might not otherwise be possible. Whether you are new to grant writing or looking to strengthen your skills, this workshop will provide practical tools, collaborative planning opportunities, and guidance to help turn your ideas into funded STEM initiatives—starting right in your own backyard.
Join and learn from elementary educators Denise Aikens and Carmelia Rodriguez, who have successfully secured grant funding to develop innovative STEM and environmental education programs for an immersive two-day professional learning workshop designed to help educators confidently identify funding opportunities, develop impactful STEM projects, and write competitive grant proposals. Participants will learn how to identify funding opportunities, design meaningful STEM projects that address real-world community needs, and write competitive grant proposals that bring innovative learning experiences to life.
In the first session, participants are introduced to the power of grant writing as a catalyst for innovative STEM education and environmental stewardship. Through interactive discussions, real-world grant success stories, guest speakers, and collaborative activities, educators will explore how grant funding can transform ideas into impactful learning experiences.
Asynchronous Homework: Participants will complete an asynchronous assignment between Session 1 and Session 2 to continue developing their STEM project ideas. This independent work will allow educators to reflect on their learning, identify a community's need, project idea, and begin building the foundation of their grant proposal. The completed work will serve as a starting point for collaborative discussions, project refinement, and grant application development during Session 2.
In the second session, participants will focus on transforming STEM ideas into actionable, grant-ready projects. Participants will revisit their project concepts, strengthen their action plans, and explore how community partnerships, family engagement, and strategic budgeting can support successful STEM initiatives. By the end, participants will have the foundation needed to begin their initial STEM grant application
