A Message from our Board Chair

Hi STEMteachersNYC Community!

My name is Kate Macaulay, and I’d like to start by introducing myself. I’m an Elementary Science Specialist at Hunter College Elementary School, and have just reached my quarter-century-mark. This is my 25th year teaching in NYC!

For the past 7 years, I’ve also been an active member of STEMteachersNYC, as a participant and workshop and Elementary Initiative leader.

“STEMteachersNYC has reinvigorated my teaching, helped me see myself as an expert in the field, and connected me to an enthusiastic, creative network.”

I’m excited to share that I’ve stepped into the role of Board Chair for STEMteachersNYC, and I’m grateful to serve an organization that has been so important in shaping my journey as an educator. STEMteachersNYC has reinvigorated my teaching, helped me see myself as an expert in the field, and connected me to an enthusiastic, creative network of STEM educators and partner organizations across New York City and beyond.

Anyone who teaches knows how often the ground shifts beneath our feet: a new curriculum, a new assessment, a new state requirement, a new initiative, or a new colleague who needs mentoring and support. STEMTeachersNYC exists because of this reality.

Real Connection

Creating spaces where educators can share best practices, ask hard questions, and feel supported.

Teacher Growth

Building teacher-leader pathways and supporting STEM educators as they grow into leaders.

We respond to teachers’ needs in real time, creating spaces like our working groups, where educators can share best practices, ask hard questions, and feel supported as professionals. Through responsive, teacher-designed workshops, we offer practical, low-cost/no-cost, classroom-centered learning aligned to teachers’ immediate needs. Just as importantly, STEMTeachersNYC has intentionally built teacher-leader pathways, supporting STEM educators as they grow into leaders in their schools, and communities.

For Teachers, By Teachers, About Teaching

At its core, STEMteachersNYC is for teachers, by teachers, about teaching! A community grounded in shared learning and collective growth.

I’m excited about what’s ahead and look forward to learning with you, and building alongside you, as we continue to grow a network that supports thoughtful, rigorous, and hopeful STEM teaching across New York City and beyond.

Kate Macaulay

Warmly,

Kate Macaulay
