About the Mini-Workshop

Are you curious about the hidden gems within our waters in NYC? In this session, we’ll be talking about the saltmarshes of NYC, the organisms that call it home, and how a local road raising project within a Staten Island saltmarsh will make it easier for wildlife to move across its habitats. After a presentation, we will head into the nearby saltmarsh and give you a chance to learn firsthand about fish and to try out some of the methods we use in our work.

This workshop also coincides with the City Nature Challenge, an annual bioblitz-style community science event to find and document urban biodiversity, so workshop participants can learn how to contribute to the City Nature Challenge using the app iNaturalist. Option following the workshop to take a tour of the Greenbelt Native Plant Center, a 13-acre greenhouse, nursery, and seed bank complex run by the NYC Parks department.
