Back by popular demand!

Have you wanted to more deeply incorporate climate change in your physics classes, but you’re just not sure how? Back by popular demand!

Leaders: Elissa Levy

Format and Dates: One 3-hour VIRTUAL Session, 4/30/2022

Description: Have you wanted to more deeply incorporate climate change in your physics classes, but you’re just not sure how? Join us to play with classroom-tested materials that frame a modeling-friendly energy unit as an exploration of climate change physics. We’ll explore energy bar charts, the translation of energy forms to energy resources, and flow charts to examine energy use across the US and the world. Then we’ll talk about how students can model global warming, and we’ll read Eunice Foote’s original 1856 paper on carbon dioxide and heat. These activities have been done in 9th grade physics and can be adapted for any middle or high school classroom.

STEMteachersNYC delivers professional development workshops for teachers, by teachers, about teaching, since 2011. All workshops over 2hrs offer CTLE. CUNY Pre-service teachers may attend for free; Brooklyn College Pre-service teachers receive Field Site hours. Please reach out if your school requires an invoice. We are an NYCDOE MTAC Vendor.
