Led by Zhanna Glazenburg and Steve Lance
From NYS Regent to AP Physics and AP Chem, charge and charging are integral to most Physics and Chemistry curricula. A lot of formal activities are written to help students conceptualize the ideas of charge and charging require equipment such as Van de Graaff generator, electroscopes, Leyden jars and other similarly costly equipment. In this workshop participants will explore a number of hands-on electrostatics activities designed to aid students developing the concepts of charge/charging as well as electrostatic force and field while using inexpensive home made apparatus largely composed of regular household and recycled items. Participants will be given an opportunity to explore the electrostatics activities sequence, discuss with fellow educators about implementation of electrostatics in the classroom, and leave with useable resources in order to edit/modify the sequence to serve the needs of their students and their unique teaching situation.
