NYAS SiR workshop- Get Ready to Launch Research Projects w/Students! (code)
November 12 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Led by Jason Sullivan
This workshop will focus on taking project ideas and intentionally designing the introduction to maximize student engagement, interest, and buy-in. Participants investigate strategies for using a localized-phenomena (or making an existing research project more relevant) to create a genuinely student-centered project authentically. Participants then draft/design activities and resources to help identify what students already know about the key project concepts and what questions they already have to initiate science inquiry. Participants will engage with one another in a process of “workshopping” a project with colleagues. Ideally this would be offered early in the fall to get ahead of the introduction of the project in the classroom.
- Project Planning & mapping to existing curriculum.
- Selecting phenomena.
- Engaging students with phenomena in multiple modalities; ‘making it local and relevant’.
- Peer review prompts.
