Sustainable Maker Cultures in the K-8 Classroom
May 14 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Many thanks to ConEd for ongoing support of our ClimateSTEM Series!
Our students use a variety of multimedia to share/report data including Scratch, movie presentations, micro bits, to create game boards or upcycling materials. Our students use data to compose arguments, create infographics, and tell stories.
This workshop will focus on adopting the Circular Maker Space approach. In our talk, we share our experience about not having our own dedicated Maker Space, with limited budget. Some of our initial maker projects generated a lot of waste and eventually some of them ended up in the garbage. Keeping the Sustainable Development Goals in mind, we look into how we can utilize maker spaces to reduce waste and build resilience. Some ideas include virtual maker space to teach engineering design and engaging students in meaningful projects that instills a sense of community responsibility.
Cost: FREE. Game sets will be raffled off to participants. You must attend to be in the running! Our ClimateSTEM Series is supported by ConEd.
