If fidget spinners are any indication, students LOVE studying circular motion! In this 3-hour workshop we will spend time in both student-mode and teacher-mode building a conceptual understanding of circular motion by using a combination of hands-on exploration and practicing explaining our understanding using multiple representations (oral, written, pictorial, equations). All the activities consist of manipulatives that are inexpensive to purchase or make. We will specifically focus on ways of describing circular motion, forces and force diagrams, tangential velocity and centripetal acceleration in situations ranging from satellite orbits to roller coasters.
