Join Maplewoodshop for a session of hands-on woodworking! No prior experience needed. In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn how to use hand tools such as a saw, hammer, drill and more. You’ll have the empowering experience of building your very own “keepsake box”. Following construction, we will collaboratively reflect on the process. You will begin making connections to your discipline, discuss the life lessons learned by working on the projects, and make plans to bring woodworking to your students. Everyone will leave with their wood project and starter project lessons to bring back to your school.

This workshop is perfect for non-shop teachers who want to expose their students to woodworking, and introduce their students to the basics of engineering in a low-cost way. The process of woodworking teaches important life skills and is a wonderful form of self-expression. With multiple points of entry, it is an activity for all types of learners to explore STEM concepts. Non-shop teachers will gain a firm understanding of how to safely and easily begin woodworking with their students and how to tie it into their curriculum.
