In this session, participants will learn about the basics of using bar models to help students simplify and solve complex word problems. Students often struggle with interpreting the components of a math problem and knowing what to “do” with them. Bar models allow students to visualize the different parts of the problem and where the answer can be found in a pictorial representation. Participants can expect to engage with multiple examples, and develop your own. This immensely powerful tool has dramatically changed my own practices both as a teacher and a lifelong student of mathematics! It was a game changer for me and it will be for you, too!
