Workshop Led by: Jason Sullivan, Lindsay Fox, Diana Loiacono, and Amy Wish
Interested in learning how to raise the level of student discourse in your science class? Want to learn some key strategies for getting students of all ability levels interested and engaged in your lesson?  Join us to gain some valuable NGSS-aligned teaching strategies that you can incorporate this school year.
During the workshop we will share our recent experience working with elementary school teachers on how to successfully apply the principles of responsive teaching in science instruction.  This workshop is aimed to provide you with some new questioning strategies, tips for how to raise the level of student-to-student discourse, and methods for implementing engaging opportunities for special education students and English language learners in science lessons.  We will also share some specific lessons that illustrate best practices in science education, and how these best practices connect and support the Next Generation Science Standards. So whether you’re an elementary or middle school science teacher, a pre-service STEM teacher, or a teacher interested in improving students’ literacy and mathematical skills by engaging students in science activities and argumentation, then this is a workshop for you.
