Leader: Glen Stuart
Description: In this 2 part virtual workshop, you will learn how responsive teaching can leverage the Claims Evidence Reasoning (CER) framework in the Environmental Science classroom to make student thinking visible. When combined, these strategies exceed the sum of their parts to increase student learning and outcomes. This workshop will ask you to engage in environmental science-specific activities in student mode, where you will experience what these strategies look like, sound like, and feel like.
Then, you will shift into teacher mode to unpack these ideas as they relate to our classrooms. By the end of Part 1 participants will be able to anticipate student misconceptions associated with CER, and define both CER and Ecological Resilience. In Part 2 we will emphasize using data from historical ecological case studies to uncover, advance, and assess student thinking. By the end of the experience, you will earn the confidence to implement these strategies in your classroom.
Sunday, April 3rd and April 24th
